106 FIGURES + 2 BIREME + 1 BOAT SHELL
Exclusive diorama made by ANDREA CUSTOM SHOP.
¨This diorama represents a crucial moment in ancient history: the loss of Carthaginian supremacy in the Mediterranean. More than a frozen image, it represents a sequence in time. On the far right, the Roman admiral gives the order to approach solemnly. On the far left, the Carthaginian ship is being dramatically evacuated.
The Roman bireme would be the center around which all the action took place. The study of the figures for this work was rather complicated, as most of them were in full action and interacting.
The diorama should be built with a strong structure, allowing for undamaged shipment, locally and worldwide.
The Andrea Press book “Bireme” explains in detail the modeling techniques used and developed in this work, but perhaps some more words may be offered here with respect to the difficulties involved in creating the “star” of this work: water. It was all tinted resin, poured into an enormous mold cast from a form of the sea surface made with assorted clays and putties. Obtaining a clean, transparent copy was not easy at all and in any case extremely expensive. As resin is not reusable we had to get a mint copy in the first attempt and… we did! I remember one of my assistants exclaimed at the moment of extracting the cast water: “This is the happiest day of my life!” In fact, everybody was stunned. I felt great, really great.¨
